We finally made it back to the USA. Just in time to celebrate my 72nd birthday. Holy Crap!! Im old, but, my lovely Alice baked me my favorite cake, Banana Nut Cake. Yum!! 7 countries. Our last day in Burgundy. How about a dip in the spa while cruising the canal. We docked at St. Julien for the last dinner. Candlelight with the captain, Jeremy and Olivia. Yep, you had to try escargo! All the lunch and dinner menus exceeded expectations. Great meeting our new friends from Canada/Australia, Matthew and Lisa. We enjoyed the conversation and sharing the wine in Burgundy. Special thanks to the entire crew aboard the Impression team. Jeremy, Olivia, Joana, Chevvy, and Aubin. Bonjour from the canal in Burgundy. Day trip into Dijon. Lovely city with extraordinary architecture and historic sites. The famous market indoor and outdoor. Another glorious day on the canal. We took bikes for a ride along the canal and waited for boat to catch up. Explored villages, enjoyed farms and livestock and people. You can choose to stay on boat, or ride bikes or just walk along the canal. It was a good morning. After another terrific lunch, we visited another of Burgundy's numerous 14th to 18th century castles. The history of France is amazing. Each meal is an adventure in itself. Historical Beaune! The Hospice of Beaune! This hospital was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin as a hospital for the poor. The original building, Hotel Dieu, one of the finest examples of 15th century Burgandian architecture, is now a museum. It remained a hospital until 1971. You never know about history and what makes the cultural and spirit of Burgundy unless it is preserved by community. Reflective and educational. A day visiting Domaine Chanson in Beaune Burgundy. Incredible winery set inside Roman era castle. 7 meter thick walls guard against heat instead of cannon balls. Three levels of varietals fir each area of terrior that they own . Incredible history of family winemakers who perfect their craft. Paul was a delightful host. We had an incredible lunch. A new day of crusing in the French countryside. Passing cyclist, people walking their dogs, fields of sunflowers, you get the picture. Our excursion today was at Jean Baptiste Jessiaume, six generational family winery. The underground cellars were amazing and nice cool temperatures. The wine dog, Edgar kept us entertained. The wines exquisite, family secrets to their style of winemakers were explained in details. A lovely setting on a hot day. We arrived back at barge for secret entertainment by four French jazz musicians. Fun, talented and very good with each others antics. As usual, the dinner was superb 👌 Desert delightful and converstions enjoyable. Our journey into the canals begin. We passed thru first big lock and into the lovely French countryside. Passing farm land and dmall villages. The lunch was scrumptious as always. Birds of Prey in barn of 14th century Chateau. Toured the historic buildings and learned the history thru the ages. As temps jumped around 100. It is time to head back to boat and some AC. The dinners are artistry of presentation and taste. Each selection is explained in detail. Ingredients combined with the chefs magic touch. Wine from local burgundy winerand vineyards.
